MGM Eyes Japan & South Korea

The casino firm is one of the largest in the world, boasting dozens of gambling interests.

With regards to Japan; “There’s a growing consensus there that gaming will be expanded, and we plan to participate in that process. I think our operating and development expertise as well as our ability to be good partners are great advantages for us,” MGM CEO Jim Murren said recently in a second quarter earnings call, according to HotelNewsNow.com.

On South Korea, Murren remarked: “The view is becoming more favorable, so we’ll have to see. But that is potentially, again, a very large opportunity.”

MGM is close to beginning casino projects in Maryland and Massachusetts, should it win approval in each jurisdiction. The firm is also eying online gambling in New Jersey and Nevada. The Garden State should kick off its industry this fall, while Nevada has already seen real-money games from one firm (not MGM).
