Another Las Vegas resort has been imploded just as two new Sin City resorts are ready to open! Yes, as the dust settles, the next generation of Sin City resorts begins to rise. So, This Week in Gambling, we’re looking at new Las Vegas hotels opening next week, next month, and next year!
The East Side Cannery is no more. The resort was closed during Covid and never reopened. Now it’s lost to the past as Boyd Gaming had the abandoned property imploded on March 5th. That was the first implosion in Las Vegas since the Tropicana came down in 2024. But East Side Cannery isn’t the only property that Boyd is losing. Their Joker’s Wild Casino just south of Vegas in Henderson is shutting its doors next week. But you know the old saying, when one resort closes, another one opens.
And that brings us to Boyd’s newest casino, Cadence Crossing, which will occupy a brand new building just feet from the old Joker’s Wild. Cadence Crossing will have a more modern, high-tech approach to gaming with a 10,000 square foot casino floor and 450 state-of-the-art slot machines. Table games, live entertainment, and multiple dining outlets will soon follow, and future plans include a hotel and an expanded gaming area. Cadence Crossing will open March 25th, just days after Joker’s Wild officially closes. But they aren’t the only new Las Vegas resort and casino opening this spring.
In fact, the Vanderpump Hotel is about a month away from welcoming guests to the strip as Caesars transforms the Cromwell. While there is no official opening date for the Vanderpump, Caesars will stop taking reservations for Cromwell early next week so that renovations on the 188 existing hotel rooms can begin. This rebrand includes a fresh casino floor, a new signature lounge, hand selected amenities, and unique design elements. The Vanderpump should officially open before the end of April.
But wait, there’s more. Green Valley Ranch just finished some renovation work of their own on their West Tower, updating 162 rooms and 37 suites. Their $200 million transformation now turns to upgrading their east tower, which should be open later this year. Finally, this week, what would a show about new Las Vegas resorts be without a quick update on progress at the Hard Rock and the possibility that Bally’s Las Vegas could return?
First, when we visited the Hard Rock construction site last October, the 700 ft guitar-shaped tower was really beginning to come together. And now construction is just past the halfway point. When completed, the property will have over 3,600 new and renovated rooms with the guitar tower holding over 650 luxury rooms and suites. The revised grand opening date for Hard Rock Las Vegas is now the fall of 2027.
And what about those rumors of a new Bally’s Las Vegas? Well, the company has confirmed their plans to build a new Las Vegas resort and casino on the same 35 acres as the new baseball stadium. Bally’s plans to break ground this year and to open at least part of the new casino by the time the stadium debuts, hopefully in 2028, but we’ll have to see. Financing is still an issue for Bally’s Corp. And there are several sources in and around Las Vegas that have serious doubts that the stadium will actually be completed, let alone a new Bally’s Las Vegas. So, temper your excitement.
