Zynga ‘soft launch’ to boost mobile gaming presence

zyngaiGaming Business – Social gaming company Zynga is to ‘soft launch’ three updated versions of its core mobile titles as part of an effort to boost its presence in the mobile gaming sector.

According to the Reuters news agency, ‘FarmVille 2: Country Escape’ went live on Monday of this week while updated versions of ‘Zynga Poker’ and ‘Words With Friends’ will be rolled out by the end of June.

FarmVille 2: Country Escape includes a number of new elements such as a virtual goods exchange while players will also be able to play offline.

Zynga said the new versions of its Zynga Poker and Words With Friends would also boast new design elements and features based on user feedback.

The titles will be available on iOS and Android devices in select undisclosed markets.

The triple launch is part of a strategy that has seen the firm cut a number of jobs and acquire mobile games developer NaturalMotion, as reported by iGaming Business.

Don Mattrick, who was recently appointed chief executive officer of Zynga, is keen for the company to re-establish itself in the mobile games market.

“Did the company miss a beat with the transition to mobile? Absolutely. Are we fixing that? Yes, we are,” Mattrick said.
