Oklahoma Sports Betting Through Tribal Gaming
Ever since the 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, the federal law restricting sports gambling to four states, legal sports betting has spread like wildfire. Now a potential battle for Oklahoma sports betting is playing out between the Governor and the state’s tribal gaming interests. At the recent Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association convention at the Cox Business Center no fewer than four sessions have been devoted to sports gaming… that’s more than any other topic. The sessions are sponsored by United Kingdom-based Sports Betting Community, a “news, media and events company” that promotes…
Major League Baseball Deal with DraftKings
The Major League Baseball deal with DraftKings is the latest major sponsorship for the DFS operator. Moving forward, the company will be the league’s official gaming partner. Despite initial opposition, MLB has been actively involved with gaming companies, including a partnership with MGM Resorts International signed at the end of 2018. DraftKings remains the largest fantasy betting companies in the United States, with properties in New Jersey and Mississippi, and another offer coming up in West Virginia. As a result of the partnership, DraftKings will be allowed to use league data and leverage the brand’s power by using the MLB’s…
New Opportunities for Sports Betting with Cryptocurrencies
Sports Betting with Cryptocurrencies – The global sports betting market is expected to be fragmented, owing to huge number of players operating in the market on a regional and global scale. The players including GVC Holding PLC, Paddy Power Betfair PLC, Bet 365 Group Ltd, The Star Group, and William Hill PLC, accounting for around 25-30% share globally, lead the sports betting market. The important factors boosting the growing share of the market involve in-house product development, mergers and acquisitions, and new innovations. For example, Paddy Power collaborated with Betfair, in 2016, to launch Paddy Power Betfair, and took over…
Sports Bets in North Carolina Go Live
Two tribal casinos are taking sports bets in North Carolina Friday when Governor Roy Cooper signed a bill allowing the activity at limited locations. The bill restricts sports wagering to tribal lands and does not allow mobile bets. Revenue estimates for sports bets and horse betting are between $1 million and $1.5 million for the state annually. The original wagering bill was passed in April with the approval of the state North Carolina Senate and House of Representatives. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians was the only tribe that agreed to a compact with the state. The activity of betting…
Sports Betting Affect on IndyCar Racing
On September 1st of this year, betting on sports in Indiana will become legal. But residents should not expect to see betting kiosks unloaded at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for IndyCar Racing. The new legislation only licensed casinos, racinos and off-track betting facilities to open a sports book and accept bets. So while legislation allows Hoosiers to bet on racing, venues where legal gambling doesn’t already take place won’t be taking wagers. “The law that passed, and it was obvious from the very beginning of the legislative process,” said Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co, which owns IMS and IndyCar,…
Half in US Will Soon Live With Legal Sports Betting
On June 14, 2018, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy started the legal sports betting industry in the state with a $20 wager on Germany to win last year’s World Cup, and the New Jersey Devils to hoist the 2019 Stanley Cup. Murphy would eventually lose both wagers (France/St. Louis Blues), but less than a year later he and his state hit a lucrative, historic jackpot. Since the unanimous SCOTUS decision on May 14, 2018, to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), a 1992 federal law that had essentially restricted single-game sports betting to Nevada and its famed…
