Net Neutrality Death? Here Come Internet “Fast Lanes”

Who’s afraid of the Net Neutrality Death? Well, we’ve been warning our readers of the perils of killing Net Neutrality for some time now. While many agreed with our position on the importance of keeping a fair and balanced Internet, some have called us crazy. To those few, we can now gently say “told ya so” and point to the beginning of the end.

Very quietly, Cox Communication is now offering a new service… an Internet “fast lane“, if you will. A service that will reduce latency, disconnections, and lag spikes… unlike those poor fools on the regular, not-quite-as-fast Internet. And the best part? It will only set you back an extra $180 each year! Well, is that a great deal or what?

A Cox representative told the Motherboard website that their service was launched in Arizona as part of a limited trial. The monthly subscription provides the extra speed for people who like to play games online. The additional $180 a year will cover one “gamer” per household, but additional licenses may be purchased for only another $60 per year.

So, to all those naysayers out there who told us we were silly to to complain about the Net Neutrality death, we hope you enjoy the future of the World Wide Web. And when your bill goes up and the quality of your service goes down, just walk to the nearest mirror and thank yourselves.
