The producers of the Vegas show Absinthe have announced a brief, temporary shutdown later this year, using the pause to voice sharp criticism against Formula One operations on the Strip. The production inside the Spiegeltent at Caesars Palace will pause performances from Nov. 16 through Nov. 29, 2026, to complete long overdue venue repairs and refurbishments.
Producer Ross Mollison broke the news through the persona of The Gazillionaire, the outrageously outspoken host character of the production. While addressing the brief closure, the announcement targeted the timing of the annual Las Vegas Grand Prix, calling the event schedule detrimental to ticket sales for live performances.
The statement noted that late night race times severely harm audience attendance across Strip venues and dining establishments. Organizers selected late November for the maintenance window because the race week period represents one of the slowest stretches of the calendar year for area theater productions.
The Gazillionaire humorously claimed that roof repairs had been delayed for years while anticipating potential resort ownership changes, relying instead on emergency measures to handle leaks. In reality, the short hiatus will allow maintenance crews to overhaul the Spiegeltent structure while cast and crew take a brief break.
During the downtime, producers are pointing theatergoers toward alternative local productions under the same banner. Visitors seeking entertainment while the flagship tent undergoes repairs can attend secondary shows in the market, including the production operating at Cosmopolitan or the ongoing run inside Venetian.
The sharp public comments reflect broader frustration among local venue operators who report significant logistical disruptions and diminished foot traffic during the motor race event weeks. City leaders and tourism authorities have continued supporting the high profile racing event, maintaining multiyear agreements despite public pushback from business leaders.
Despite the planned pause, the long running performance will reopen immediately following the completion of physical repairs at the end of November. The venue expects to resume its normal schedule of regular weekly shows heading into the end of the year holiday season, maintaining its ongoing residence on the grounds of Caesars Palace.
