June 1st appears to be the date set for a Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino reopening in Connecticut. Both properties have been shut down for two months due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Both casinos issued statements which noted the properties would only be catering to residents of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Foxwoods, however, added Massachusetts and other states to their list later. “There will be no immediate out-of-state marketing beyond Connecticut, but we welcome guests from all over to Foxwoods as we reopen on June 1,” Foxwoods said in a statement. Efforts to regulate New York mobile sports betting have once again found their way to the state legislature, thanks to our old friend Joseph Addabbo. The State Senator has now called on Governor Andrew Cuomo to legalize the activity before the end of this year. The Senator said there was a severe deficit with the State budget before the Coronavirus crisis, and he estimates New York could potentially make up $200 million a year. The Governor of California has asked three Tribal casinos to consider delaying their scheduled opening while the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic is still being fought. Many tribal casinos in the state closed in March still remain closed through the end of this May at least. However, three properties near San Diego have made plans to reopening in the next few days. “I urge tribal governments to reconsider and instead make those determinations based on how they align with the current local public health conditions and the statewide stage of reopening,” said Governor Gavin Newsom.
