Some Stations Casinos Still Closed

With at least three Station Casinos still closed in the Las Vegas area, the company has announced that they could remain shuttered for at least another year. Fiesta Rancho, Fiesta Henderson, and Texas Station are all still closed, and Station says that two of those properties have been approved by The North Las Vegas City Council to stay closed until at least June 4, 2023.

Like so many others, these closures all began when the Coronavirus pandemic hit. At its height, up to 98% of Culinary Union workers were laid off. In fact, the Texas Station parking garage was being used as a testing and vaccination center.

Then in June of 2021, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak signed the “Right To Return” law which was designed to help hospitality workers return to their jobs following COVID. However, while many of the Station Casinos remain closed, only 80% of those who worked for the company have gone back to their jobs at this time.

So in March of this year, the Culinary Union decided to file a lawsuit against Station. That suit alleges the company has committed multiple violations of the “Right To Return” law, even though so many of the Station Casinos remain closed. The Union told the Nevada Gaming Control Board that the company has acted in an “unsuitable manner” with disregard for federal law and the legal process.

So far, the Board has not commented on this ongoing legal issue.
