Las Vegas Civil Disobedience to Disrupt the City

As Sin City braces for the Culinary Union strike, rumors that acts of Las Vegas civil disobedience will be carried out have leaked. Apparently the Union has decided that the best way to get their point across is not simply to protest and picket, but to block traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard. Like there wasn’t enough issues on The Strip right now?

In an effort to grab headlines and elicit sympathy, it seems the the best plan for the Union is to ask for members who are willing to be arrested and go to jail. In fact, they have actually asked for volunteers to do just that. The idea being that seeing Union members arrested on the evening news will be good for public relations. But will it?

I mean, there are many people who empathize with the “working man (and woman)” in this case. But Las Vegas civil disobedience? Deliberately blocking traffic on The Strip? That seems like a great way to piss people off and swing public opinion away from the Unions cause.

Now, here’s the best part (or perhaps the stupidest): News has leaked out that MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts have already agreed to give the workers a new, five-year contract. A contract that rumors say will be one of the biggest increase in compensation for workers the history Las Vegas.

That’s right. There is no reason for the protests to continue. There is no reason to block The Strip. There is no reason for any Las Vegas civil disobedience, or for anyone to go to jail. So what is going on here? Well, let’s just say that all Union members pay dues. And when people pay for something, they want to see a return on investment. Put the pieces together.
