Maryland Mobile Sports Betting by Thanksgiving

Just in time for turkey, stuffing, and gravy, folks will be able to enjoy Maryland mobile sports betting while they watch their favorite football games! Last week, regulators were considering applications from ten operators, and have now approved seven after testing of their apps.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming authorities confirmed gambling news that the mobile apps that are approved should be up and running by November 23rd. So perhaps a few wagers will be on the menu before people sit down to Thanksgiving dinner? Operators who are approved and will be up and running soon include BetMGM, Barstool Sports, Caesars, BetRivers, PointsBet., and of course FanDuel and DraftKings.

Maryland mobile sports betting is expected to generate at least $30 million a year once all is said and done. However, some within the industry believe the eventual total could be as high as $75 million annually. The Governor even chimed in, stating that to finally launch Maryland mobile sports betting the state had to “…overcome countless legal, political, and bureaucratic delays that threatened to push back the launch past the Super Bowl next year.”

In truth, voters in the state approved sports betting over two years ago, but since then there has only been live, in-person betting allowed. The delay in mobile betting is rumored to have been from state legislators who didn’t want the market there to be dominated exclusively by select, big operators.
