Plans for a proposed Caesars NBA Arena on the Las Vegas Strip have been officially unveiled by casino and real estate executives. The proposed arena project involves Caesars Entertainment and real estate investment trust VICI Properties developing concepts for a sports and entertainment venue on approximately 50 acres located directly behind Paris Las Vegas, Horseshoe Las Vegas, and Planet Hollywood. The joint effort marks the first public confirmation that either company is actively pursuing a major venue for a potential expansion professional basketball team in southern Nevada.
VICI President and Chief Operating Officer John Payne disclosed the proposal during the company second quarter earnings call. Payne confirmed that VICI owns the 50 acre parcel in conjunction with Caesars and that both entities are working on a shared development plan. Leading the project for the casino operator is Sean McBurney, who serves as Chief Commercial Officer and Regional President for Las Vegas at Caesars.
The site selected for the Caesars NBA Arena represents one of the largest remaining undeveloped parcels along the Las Vegas Strip corridor. Part of the 50 acre site currently hosts operations for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix and the BattleBots Arena, while previously receiving interest as a potential Major League Soccer stadium site. Payne noted that the resilience of Las Vegas continues to be reinforced by the ongoing diversification of commercial demand.
Executives emphasized that bringing a major basketball franchise to the city aligns with broader economic growth goals across the region. Payne noted that every new commercial demand driver makes Las Vegas increasingly difficult to bet against in the long term. The announcement comes as the professional basketball league actively evaluates market expansion. League team owners voted in March to explore adding franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle, with Commissioner Adam Silver targeting a final decision by the end of the year.
Multiple investor groups are competing to secure the rights to a Las Vegas franchise, while several prospective venue sites across the metropolitan area remain under active evaluation. The proposed Caesars NBA Arena concept positions the two gaming and real estate giants as prominent contenders to host a team if expansion moves forward. Officials indicated that further venue specifications for the arena will develop alongside league decisions regarding team placement.
