With the rapid expansion of legal wagering on sporting events in America, it may seem like 2021 is a long time to wait. But the Action Network’s Darren Rovell recently projected that if Arizona sports betting is going to happen, that’s the time frame we’re looking at.

Rovell cited tribal gaming conflicts as an impediment for gambling in Arizona. “Will the tribes run sports betting in the state? The tribes themselves can’t even decide if or how they want to be involved, so this is going to take a while to sort itself out”, he said.

Betting on sports is now legal in 17 states, plus Oregon is close to legalizing it. Arizona joins seven other states in the 2021 projection category. 11 states are projected to get gambling legalized in 2020 in the report.
